Over the course of his career, there has been a strange national belief that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is a bad leader. The word “diva” gets thrown a lot in these sorts of accusations. The reality is, outside of two or three specific former players, Aaron Rodgers receives nothing but glowing compliments about his leadership and presence in the locker room. Packers rookie receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs discussed Rodgers’ leadership and impact on them.
Christian Watson’s Comments
When asked about his relationship with the four-time MVP Christian Watson opened up about the impact Aaron Rodgers had on him.
“I’m extremely thankful to be able to have learned from him, grown with him,” said Watson. “I think that he pushed me to be a better player, a better man, each and every day”
Watson’s rookie season started in one of the worst ways it could have. He dropped what would have been a 75-yard touchdown on the Packers’ first offensive play of the season. From that point on he dealt with some injuries and drops. However, Aaron Rodgers never stopped believing in the rookie from North Dakota State University. He broke out in Dallas with a three-touchdown performance and finished the season with nine total touchdowns.
Romeo Doubs’ Comments
Romeo Doubs’ season started off better than Christian Watson’s but was also plagued with injuries. Doubs became a fan favorite before the season even started. A great camp paired with a good pre-season created high expectations. Doubs found the endzone early in the season against the Buccaneers. However, he was sidelined after an injury against the Lions. Doubs shared his thoughts on Aaron Rodgers as a leader after the season.
“He’ll make you a better player. I can’t even find the direct words to say,” said Doubs of Rodgers. “One of the best leaders I’ve ever been around… He’ll make you a better person.”
