The Green Bay Packers have the chance to play spoiler for a division rival’s chances of winning the NFC North and the No. 1 seed in the conference in Week 17.
After Sunday’s action across the NFL, the Minnesota Vikings still have the possibility of unseating the Detroit Lions for the No. 1 seed and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs when they close out the season at Ford Field in Week 18.
However, for that game to become a de-facto NFC North championship game, Sam Darnold and the Vikings need to get past Jordan Love and the surging Packers next Sunday.
Packers vs. Vikings Flexed by NFL
Originally scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff, the NFL announced on Dec. 23 that Packers vs. Vikings will now be in the marquee 4:25 p.m. window, with the league moving Cowboys at Eagles on Sunday afternoon to a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The combination of the game having such significant meaning in the division race, and the uncertainty facing Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ availability for this weekend after suffering a concussion in Week 16 against the Commanders likely figured in the NFL’s decision to flex Packers vs. Vikings.
Now, if the Packers are able to spoil the Vikings’ bid for the No. 1 seed, they’ll be doing so in front of a far larger audience.
