Lambeau Field was a house of horrors for the Green Bay Packers in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Chicago Bears.
Whatever could go wrong for the Packers, most certainly did go wrong, in a disastrous 24-22 last-second loss to the NFC North rivals. Quarterback Jordan Love suffered a funny-bone injury that thrust backup quarterback Malik Willis into action and wide receiver Christian Watson went down with a non-contact knee injury.
The Packers’ loss sets the stage for a trip to Philadelphia and a rematch from the season opener against the No. 1 seed Eagles and one of the most prolific offenses in the league.
Packers’ Tucker Kraft Sounds Alarm Ahead of Playoff Opener
Understandably, after a heartbreaking loss that prevented the Packers from climbing to the No. 5 seed and avoiding an opening-round playoff game against one of the NFC’s top Super Bowl contenders, tight end Tucker Kraft stressed the need for the locker room to stick together.
“Just trying to make sure that everyone’s still together,” Kraft told reporters after the game, via The Athletic. “Like sure, that’s an extremely disappointing loss. We should not have lost that game. However, there is more life to our season. We get a chance to go on the road and make history, so we’re going to try to do that one game at a time, one play at a time.”
Kraft caught four passes for 36 yards on Sunday, but the Packers’ passing offense is going to need to be far more effective in the Wild Card round against the Eagles than it was in a game that saw Love and Willis splitting time at quarterback against the Bears.
“It hasn’t been good,” Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters, of the passing game. “It is extremely frustrating right now, so I think that’s something that we’re gonna have to take a deep dive into and we have been. It’s not like it’s anything new, but we gotta do a better job.”
After losing two straight games, the Packers have a week to regain the balance on offense and attacking-style defense that fueled a second-half surge with the postseason about to get underway.
