Packers: Trade Jordan Love, Target Bryce Young in 2023?

The Packers find themselves in a predicament with the future of their quarterback position.  In 2020 they took Jordan Love as the possible heir to Aaron Rodgers.  Well… after back to back MVP seasons and a fat contract extension, Rodgers appears to be here for a few more years.  However Green Bay could still plan for the future, just reset their timer.  Here are a couple trade scenarios that could set Green Bay up to target sensational QB prospect,  Bryce Young, in 2023.

Trade for Atlanta Falcons’ 2023 First Round Pick:

    Proposed Trade:

    • GB receives: 2023 first round pick, 2022 third round pick
    • ATL receives: Pick #29 & QB Jordan Love
Why the trade makes sense for the Falcons:

The Falcons just traded Matt Ryan and will enter a mini-rebuild as they have little to no weapons on offense outside of TE Kyle Pitts.  In what is considered a poor 2022 quarterback class, the Falcons could look elsewhere.  Take a chance on Jordan Love as their signal caller of the future.  This would allow Atlanta to compliment Jordan Love and Kyle Pitts with offensive weapons while they await the return of Calvin Ridley in 2023.

Why the trade makes sense for the Packers:

Aaron Rodgers’ contract has him set to play at least two more years with the Packers.  As of November 2025 Jordan Love will be 26 years old.  Would the Packers be okay with their potential franchise QB starting his career at 26?  On top of that by then you have to pay Jordan Love real veteran money on a long term contract.  Instead of extending Love, the Packers could simply trade him when his value is at its highest.

The only hiccup?  They’d be banking on the Falcons to struggle in 2022 netting a top-10, or even top-5 pick in 2023.  The Packers, with all this 2023 draft capital could make a move up to the very top of next years’ draft.  Who will presumably be there? Alabama’s Bryce Young — the reigning Heisman trophy winner.  Let him sit for for a year or two behind Rodgers, and you’ve got a much smoother transition into the next era of Packers football.

It was a Heisman-worthy season for Bryce Young 👏 🏆

Trade for Houston Texans’ 2023 First Round Pick:

    Proposed Trade:

    • GB receives: 2023 first round pick, 2022 third round pick
    • HOU receives: Pick #29 & QB Jordan Love

Why the trade makes sense for the Texans:

The Falcons and Texans find themselves in the same boat.  Just traded away their franchise QB and will enter a rebuild.  If the Texans wanted to take a chance on Jordan Love as their future, Green Bay could take advantage.  This would allow Houston to stock pile three first round picks this year to surround Love with what he needs.

Why the trade makes sense for the Packers:

See above.  Only Green Bay probably has a better chance at receiving a top pick with Houston than they do with Atlanta.

The Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers could also be candidates for this type of trade.
