The Green Bay Packers have one more preseason gam to play before the NFL season kicks off. There are rumors, talks, discussions, deadline roster cuts, and now trades happening. Tuesday is the deadline for cuts to slim down to an 80-man roster. The player in those Packers trade negotiations is former Wisconsin Badger offensive tackle Cole Van Lanen from. Van Lanen was picked in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and is the first Wisconsin Badger offensive lineman drafted since 2001.
Cole Van Lanen
Cole Van Lanen: Wisconsin Statistics
Van Lanen played in 45 contests at the University of Wisconsin, 19 of those snaps at the left tackle spot. Van Lanen was named a first and second-team All-Big Ten selection in his senior season with the Badgers. Cole played in one game for the Packers before the trade. The Packers called up the offensive tackle to the active roster at other times during the 2021 NFL season but did not experience much playing time.
The Bright Side of the Packers Trade
The Packers trade negotiations came fast. Jacksonville could turn into an opportunity for the tackle since he did not see much action in his first season. Unfortunately, every young player does not stay with one squad early on in their professional career. In this case, for Cole Van Lanen, staying home is in the rear-view mirror, at least for now. After all, he was born and raised in Green Bay. So one thing is for sure; he will always be from Green Bay at heart, regardless of the Packers trade.
