Today Matt Lafleur hosted a press conference right before Organized Team Activities (OTAs). There were a few take aways, but the major one was that the Packers will be hosting another joint practice this year:
“We’re going to practice against the Saints, so they’ll be our Week 2 opponent,” LaFleur said. “I talked to Dennis Allen yesterday, and we’re just working out the details of what days we’re going to practice and how we’re going to practice.”
“I think it affords you the opportunity to have your guys go out there and compete against something different,” LaFleur said. “It just brings a different level of competition, I would say, and what it really does for us is it affords us the ability to feel like we got good work in with the veterans, and then not play them in the (preseason) game.”
What to look for with Packers hosting Saints:
Many Packers fans will be looking to see what #12 looks like… for the Saints:

How Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, and Rasul Douglas treat the rookie will be fun to watch. However Saints will also be getting back star wide receiver Michael Thomas this season. It will be a great test for both sides as well to see iron sharpen iron. The times and dates of the joint practices are to be determined. The NFL has not yet announced the time and date of the Packers-Saints preseason game. It is expected to be played between Aug. 18-21.
The Packers have had history with joint practices under Lafleur. Since the hiring, the Packers hosted the Houston Texans in 2019. They were scheduled to host the Cleveland Browns in 2020 (canceled by the pandemic). Then finally hosted the New York Jets in 2021.
