Not much went right for the Packers in Sunday’s loss to the Jets. The offense looked out of sorts. The defense couldn’t get key stops and even the special teams got in on the fun with a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. After any loss, it is important to look for the positives. One positive for the Packers was the play of Robert Tonyan. Packers tight end Robert Tonyan set a record in the loss to the Jets.
Robert Tonyan Sets Packers Tight End Record
Taking another step: Robert Tonyan's 10 catches on Sunday set a new #Packers record for single-game receptions by a tight end.#NYJvsGB Game Notes 📝@KwikTrip https://t.co/tccijpYxYO

After returning from an ACL injury, Robert Tonyan has had a relatively quiet start to the season. However, that all changed on Sunday. He caught 10 passes for 90 yards, his best stat line by far since returning from injury. It also set a record. 10 catches is the new single-game Packers’ tight end receptions record. A couple of years ago, Tonyan was such a big part of the offense and it is an aspect that has been missing. Aaron Rodgers clearly loves him as a target and he finally looked back to his old ways on Sunday.
Expect More of Packers Tight End Robert Tonyan
If Randall Cobb will miss any time, expect more of Packers tight end Robert Tonyan. Rodgers was clearly looking his way today and it seems he is finally back to feeling 100 percent. If the Packers can find a rhythm with Allen Lazard, Aaron Jones and Robert Tonyan, that might help this Packers offense get off the ground. Rodgers has always loved his tight ends but just hasn’t had the trust built with the current group. Hopefully, the Packers watch the tape and see how they can use Tonyan more in the offense in the coming weeks.
Seeing a player come back from injury is always awesome. Regardless of the player, fans never want to see a player get injured and struggle to come back. A lot of the David Bakhtiari saga has been feeling terrible for the guy as he struggles to get on the field to play. Packers fans should certainly feel good about seeing Packers tight end Robert Tonyan set a record in today’s game. They will subsequently need more of him in the coming weeks if they are going to turn this season around.
