The Green Bay Packers absolutely took quite some blows on Saturday night against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Not only did Matt LaFleur’s team lose in heartbreaking fashion, 22-16, but they also saw quarterback Jordan Love suffer a head injury in the first half that forced him to miss the remainder of the game. In addition, Green Bay saw another one of its tight ends go down with an injury, as John FitzPatrick hurt his Achilles during the Bears contest.
After the game, USA Today’s Ryan Wood reported that FitzPatrick boarded the team bus on crutches and in a walking boot.
That is clearly not a great sign for Whyle’s availability for at least the next Green Bay game.
Packers TE group absorbs another blow in Week 16 loss to Chicago
This is another bad news for Green Bay’s tight end group, which is already missing star Tucker Kraft for the rest of the season with an ACL tear. Meanwhile, tight end Josh Whyle was ruled out for the date with the Bears in Week 16 due to a concussion.
That means the only tight end on Green Bay’s main roster is Luke Musgrave, who caught three passes on three targets for 38 receiving yards against Chicago.
With how things look, Green Bay could look at some options to address the team’s slim tight end room, perhaps digging into the practice squad for a healthy body.
“I’m sure we have guys capable on our practice squad,” he says, referring to Drake Dabney and McCallan Castles. “We’ll take a look at that and come up with a solution,” LaFleur said after the loss to the Bears, via Zach Jacobson of 247Sports.com.
