Packers can’t stop Commanders’ Deebo Samuel from making franchise history

The Green Bay Packers have tamed both teams they faced through two weeks in the 2025 NFL regular season. They sent a big message across the league with a 27-13 blowout of the two-time defending NFC North division champions, the Detroit Lions, in Week 1. After that game, Green Bay put everyone on notice again with a 27-18 victory over Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders last Thursday.

While it is still too early to say what kind of season the Packers will ultimately have, most signs point to a great campaign for Jordan Love and company. Their offense has been prolific, while their defense has given opponents fits.

However, the Packers were also on the wrong side of history when it comes to a particular feat pulled off by Commanders wide receiver Deebo Samuel during that Thursday meeting at Lambeau Field.

    Via the Commanders’ official website:

Samuel becomes the first wide receiver in franchise history with at least six receptions in his first two career games with the team.

Samuel, who was traded by the San Francisco 49ers to the Commanders in March, led Washington with seven receptions on eight targets in the Green Bay game. He turned those catches into 44 receiving yards and a touchdown. A one-time Pro Bowler, Samuel had 77 receiving yards on seven receptions and 10 targets in his Washington debut in his team’s 21-6 win against the New York Giants in Week 1.

Still, Washington failed to top the Packers. Samuel’s performance was nowhere near the masterpiece that Tucker Kraft had in Week 2, with the Green Bay tight end coming away with a game-high 124 receiving yards and a touchdown on six receptions and seven targets.
