The Green Bay Packers are in a position that few expected them to be in going into the season. At 3-4 there is considerable doubt among fans that the team will be able to turn it around and make a push for the Playoffs. The season is just about halfway over and there are more questions than answers surrounding the Packers, particularly on offense. Earlier this week, Packers running back AJ Dillon appeared on Nine to Noon with John Kuhn on FM 97.3 The Fan. During his interview with Kuhn, Dillon opened up about some of the questions surrounding the team.
AJ Dillon Reveals What He Thinks the Offense Needs to Do
In his interview, AJ Dillon praised the Packers offense, particularly himself and Aaron Jones, for being able to show up and run the ball well:
“We still believe that we are the best tandem in the NFL… The biggest thing is that we’re kind trying to figure out what the best configuration is of us [himself and Jones] and everybody is in the backfield… We’re both ready, willing, and able to do whatever it is that the offense needs.”
On the limited number of carries that he and Jones have been getting, Dillon said, “It is tough to pinpoint [the number of rushes needed to win a game]. It’s a game to game thing. I think for Jonesy and I, we always want the ball, as playmakers. Whatever we get, if I get four, I have to make the most of my four.”
AJ Dillon on the Packers’ Leadership and Aaron Rodgers
John Kuhn asked a question that many Packers fans have had themselves: how many of the Packers’ plays are run-pass options, or RPO’s. To that, Dillon said, “A lot of those plays are RPO’s, and 12 [Aaron Rodgers] is really good at reading those defenses.”
On what the Packers need to do to right the ship, Dillon stated: “The biggest thing for the team is just sticking together, obviously you have a lot of people saying some stuff now, and we just gotta stick together and put our best foot forward.”
When asked about who the leaders on the team are, Dillon named “Big Dog” [Marcedes Lewis], Preston Smith, Aaron Rodgers, Rashan Gary, Jaire Alexander, and Aaron Jones. He stated that their speeches never feel forced, that they come natural, and everyone says what they need to say in a timely manner on the sideline.
