The Packers lost to the Eagles 40-33 on Sunday night. While the offense showed a lot of promise, the defense was downright atrocious. They did force one turnover and got a couple of sacks but overall the play was poor. The Packers’ run defense was historically bad on Sunday.

The Packers’ Run Defense Was Historically Bad On Sunday
The stat above tells you all you need to know. The Packers’ offense gained a total of 342 yards. A great number of yards for an offense that has been struggling. The Eagles, however, gained 363 yards just on the ground. It did not matter who was running the ball. The Packers could not stop anything. In many cases, they had a chance to wrap up the runner but missed tackles killed the Packers. The defense could also not stop Jalen Hurts who absolutely torched the defense.
Jalen Hurts finished with 157 rushing yards, the fifth most by a QB in a game in the Super Bowl era including playoff games.
The Packers have allowed two of those five.

Jalen Hurts Torches The Packers
Hurts finished with 157 yards on the ground. That is the fifth most by a quarterback in a game including the playoffs. The Packers have found themselves on this list before when they played Colin Kaepernick as a 49er. Hurts found space with ease. It was as if Joe Barry and the defense were not prepared for the running ability of Hurts. Play after play, Hurts would gain 20+ yards. What made it even more of a killer is that many of those runs came on third down. This is not the kind of history that the Packers’ defense wants to keep making.
The Packers’ run defense has to stop being historically bad. Changes are going to have to come to this defense. After a performance like this, I do not see how Joe Barry keeps his job. While I do think there will be some retooling of the roster, the defense just flat-out seems unprepared which is a coaching problem. As the offense starts to look more promising, many Packers fans are now looking to see what progress the defense can make in the final third of the season.
