Giving back to the community is something the NFL highly encourages its players to do. The Walter Payton Man of the Year award recognizes players that are giving back to their communities every year. The Green Bay Packers have always been a team that makes an impact on their community. This week, a group of Packers rookies made a visit the the Wisconsin Children’s Hospital.
Packers Rookies Visit Hospital
Zach Tom, Devonte Wyatt, Romeo Doubs and Quay Walker may be rookies in the NFL, but they’re all-pros at bringing smiles to kids’ faces. These four promising young @Packers visited with kids yesterday at Children’s Wisconsin and and helped kids be kids. pic.twitter.com/6xIKr49mQE

Four Packers rookies made a visit to Wisconsin Children’s Hospital on Tuesday. Zach Tom, Quay Walker, Devonte Wyatt and Romeo Doubs spent the day with the families doing various activities. This was part of the Packers vs. Cancer initiative that the team has invested in. The players spent the day doing crafts and playing games like Cranium with the kids. Some families joined via Zoom so they could join in on the fun. They also took pictures and signed autographs. It is great to see the Packers rookies give back to the community.
A Break For The Kids
Christine Baranoucky, vice president of engagement & stewardship for Children’s Wisconsin, talked about the importance of visits like this for the kids. “They welcome a break from treatment to have the opportunity to see players from some of their favorite teams,” Baranoucky said in a statement. Seeing the pictures of the kids and the players you can see the joy on the faces of everyone especially the kids. Getting time to not think about treatments and all of the medical issues is great for the children.
There are more events like this planned in October as a part of the Packers vs Cancer initiative. These types of events are always great to see. Players do not have to do events like this. They might be highly suggested but I doubt players are forced to go (maybe I’m wrong, this is just my inkling). To have Packers rookies that are so willing to visit a children’s hospital speaks volumes about the character of the Packers draft picks.
