Now that the preseason is over and the final cuts to the rosters have been made, it’s time to take a good look at the position in question all offseason. Who is going to be catching passes from Rodgers this year? The Green Bay Packers just about finished trimming their team down to 53. To see a list of some of the cuts, go check out this article at Packers News. Now we know, unless further moves are made, who will be on the roster and who will likely be the starters at wide receiver. Are they ready to fill the humongous shoes of Devante Adams?
Who is still on the roster?

After the roster cuts, the Green Bay Packers still have Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers, Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure at wide receiver. Out of these names, at least one will have to step up and be the guy for Rodgers. Lazard has spent the last four years with Green Bay and does have good chemistry with Rodgers. Randall Cobb has been a long time receiver and friend for Rodgers and probably has the most chemistry with Rodgers even though he is the oldest of the group. Sammy Watkins is the new guy on the team who can stretch the field if him and Rodgers click from the get go. Amari Rodgers has yet to make any sort of production on the team. Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samorie Toure are all rookies.
This group of wide receivers doesn’t seem to have a playmaker or superstar on the team, but they are all talented. Either one of them would be a good option for the number two spot. Unfortunately for them, they need to rise to the number one spot to be on Rodger’s good side. The Packers could always take Aaliyan Muhammad’s advice in his article and sign another player, but that won’t really change the point that someone, even if they sign them later on, will have to step up.
Regular season right around the corner

Now that preseason is out of the way, that means we’re on to the next phase of the NFL. It’s almost time to kickoff the regular season. The first game on the Green Bay Packers schedule is the Minnesota Vikings. That is going to be a difficult matchup. To begin with, they are a division rival. Everyone knows that rivals are always a challenge for anyone. To add to that, we are going to play at their turf which gives them home advantage. That will make it difficult for Rodgers to communicate to his receivers. The secondary of the Vikings isn’t top notch but they aren’t pushovers either. They do still have Harrison Smith, Patrick Peterson, and just drafted Andrew Booth so they will be a nice starting test for the group.
Going past week one, the Packers will eventually play against the Rams, Dolphins, Bills, Buccaneers and others with top defenses. This group will have to refine their route running and learn the playbook in order too e on the same page as Rodgers. Will any of them be able to actually step up and be reliable for Rodgers or will Rodgers have to pull off his magic and carry the offense on his shoulders week in and week out? We will see and learn just how good these receivers are and how good Rodgers is without Adams.
