The Packers offense had some issues in Sunday’s loss to the Jets. While Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb have looked good, the rest of the receivers have been up and down. With injuries to Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson, there were opportunities for others to step up. However, there is one receiver that has done nothing with his opportunity. Packers receiver Juwann Winfree blows a golden opportunity to impress the team.
Packers Juwann Winfree Blows Golden Opportunity
Juwann Winfree has been elevated for his maximum allowed 3 times this season:
4 targets, 1 catch, 17 yards
Meanwhile Samori Toure has been inactive at the bottom of the 53-man roster all season long.

The maximum number of times a player can be called up from the practice squad is three. Juwann Winfree has already reached that limit through the first six games. His stat line? 1 catch for 17 yards. That’s it. He has gotten 4 targets but that is it. With all of the injuries, Winfree has gotten his chance to impress the Packers staff. The offense has been begging for someone to step up and these are the opportunities that must be seized in the NFL. Going back to last year, Winfree has appeared in four games where he has a chance to make an impact and he simply does not.
Who Gets A Chance Now?
Juwann Winfree is probably done with the Packers now. I don’t see the Packers keeping him on the practice squad if they cannot elevate him if needed. I also do not see them keeping him on the active roster especially if Watkins comes off the IR. Samori Toure is probably the most likely candidate. He impressed in the preseason but has yet to be on the active roster for gameday. The Packers have also been rumored to sign a free agent wide receiver which could take up a roster spot as well. Ultimately, the Packers need someone to step up but Juwann Winfree does not seem to be it.
It is tough to see Packers wide receiver Juwann Winfree blow a golden opportunity. I was really pulling for him as he has spent two years trying to make this team. Aaron Rodgers seemed to like him but that didn’t translate to the field. Hopefully someone will step up next week as the Packers travel to Washington to take on the Commanders.
