Third round draft pick Sean Rhyan being suspended was not the only big roster news coming out of Green Bay on Friday. The Packers have also re-signed Patrick Taylor to their practice squad. Taylor was originally waived by the Packers two days ago when they signed Justin Hollins. In addition to signing Taylor, practice squad tight end Josh Babicz was released. The Packers announced the roster moves on Twitter on Friday.

The Packers and Patrick Taylor Are Reunited
This is not the first time that the Packers and Patrick Taylor have done this dance. It is not even the first time this month that it has occurred. Green Bay waived Taylor on November 1, just to re-sign him to the practice squad on November 3. Taylor was elevated to the active roster on November 15 and played in the Packers’ loss to the Tennessee Titans on the 17th.
Taylor has actually played in eight games with the Packers this season, mostly on special teams. So far, he has recorded two tackles on 78 (39%) special teams plays. Last season, Taylor was a rarely used third running back and played nine games for the Packers. In 2021, Taylor had 23 rushes for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Will Patrick Taylor See Anymore Regular Season Game Action?
The Green Bay Packers currently have just two running backs on their 53-man roster: Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. While those two backs will consume most of the carries (and rightly so), there still may be a need for a third running back. It is probable that Patrick Taylor could be called upon again to join the roster on gameday. It is important to note, however, that a player can only be elevated from the practice squad three times in a season. If the team wants to use them on gameday after that, the player must be signed to the 53-man roster. Taylor has already been elevated twice this season.
