Former Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones is starting his second year with the Minnesota Vikings. While he’ already 30 years old, many still believe that he can be an impactful player for the Vikings.

He is still regarded as the top option on the ground for the Vikings, positioned in front of Jordan Mason and Ty Chandler on the team’s depth chart.

Being the lead running back isn’t new to Jones. For several years, the former UTEP Miners star tailback led Green Bay’s ground attack. He led the Packers in five of his eight seasons with the team. He also paced the Vikings in his first season with them in 2024 with 1,138 rushing yards to go with five touchdowns on 255 carries.

For the first time since arriving in Minnesota, Jones has been named as one of the eight team captains.

Jones used to be a captain with the Packers, but this one definitely felt special for him as well. He even said that his son was in awe of the honor.

“It meant everything to me,” Jones told reporters. “It’s truly an honor. That’s what I worked for. It just showed me that my work is paying off, and my teammates see the hard work I’m putting in. It’s funny every time I bring my son up here, three times a week, and as soon as you walk into the door, they have the pictures of the captains up there. All of last year, Dad, why aren’t you captain, Dad? I just told him you got to be voted by your teammates, and maybe next year. I called him as soon as I found out, and I don’t think he quite got it until I brought home C with a star on it.”

Jone and the Vikings will start their season on Sunday versus the Chicago Bears on the road. They will face Green Bay in Week 12 at Lambeau Field and in Week 18 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
