Packers’ Playoff Odds Drastically Impacted With Win Over Miami

The Green Bay Packers kept their playoff hopes alive and well today in Miami.  After a thrilling 26-20 win vs the Dolphins, the Packers moved to 7-8.  They now have the same record as the Seahawks and the Lions, the only two teams between them and the seventh seed.  The Washington Commanders (7-7-1) currently sit in that seventh seed.  Here is how the Packers’ playoff odds were impacted today.

Packers’ Playoff Odds Drastically Increased After Today’s Win

The Green Bay Packers currently sit in the 10th seed in the NFC.  However, the three teams the Packers need to leapfrog all lost yesterday. With Green Bay’s win on Sunday, New York Times gives them a 86% chance to make the playoffs if they win their final two games.

    • 7th Seed: Washington Commanders (7-7-1)
    • 8th: Seattle Seahawks: (7-8)
    • 9th: Detroit Lions (7-8)
    • 10th: Green Bay Packers (7-8)

The Packers will need to overtake the Commanders, Seahawks, and Lions over the last three weeks of the season.  The Lions will be overtaken as long as Green Bay wins out (Detroit travels to Lambeau in Week 18).  Green Bay will need the Commanders to lose one of their final two remaining games to sneak into the playoffs.

This week the Commanders had a tall task in going into San Francisco and beating the 49ers.  The 49ers won 37-20, moving Washington to 7-7-1.  Washington’s final two games will come against the Cleveland Browns (6-9) and the Dallas Cowboys (10-5).  Both of those games will be at home for the Commanders.

The Giants also lost on Saturday against the Minnesota Vikings.  That loss moved New York to 8-6-1.  If the Commanders don’t lose either of their two remaining games, the Packers could still sneak into the playoffs with the Giants losing their final two games.  That would put the Giants at 8-8-1 to finish the season, and, if Green Bay wins out they would finish 9-8.  The Giants final two games come against the Colts (4-9) in New York, and against the Eagles (13-1) in Philadelphia.
