Former New York Jets head coach Herm Edwards said it best; “You play to win the game.”
In order to win, and win was often as the Green Bay Packers did this season, takes building some leads and protecting them.
With NFL Wild Card Week looming, The 33rd Team revealed just how long some of the top teams across the league held leads this season, and the Packers are near the top of the list.
The Lions held a lead for 10 hours, 12 minutes and 3 seconds of game time this season, the most time spent ahead of any team 🕐
The top five:
1. Lions: 10:12:03
2. Vikings: 9:46:39
3. Packers: 9:30:09
4. Eagles: 9:26:41
5. Texans: 9:15:43 https://t.co/856JyTCL2p pic.twitter.com/ZaNJHfXNJb— The 33rd Team (@The33rdTeamFB) January 7, 2025
While it likely doesn’t mean much for Sunday’s game against the Eagles that Green Bay held leads for nearly four minutes longer this season than the Eagles did, the fact that the Packers are near the top of his list shows how consistently dominant head coach Matt LaFleur’s team has been.
Whether the Packers hold the lead for :01 or 40 minutes of Sunday’s game likely won’t matter, but these are two of the more prolific offenses in the league backed by a pair of dominant defenses which could set the stage for one of the more competitive games of the first round of these playoffs.
