The Packers were missing two key offensive players on Thursday at practice, and they were running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson. This is not good for both of them as we get closer to Sunday’s contest on the road against the Atlanta Falcons (1-0).
It’s the second consecutive day that Aaron Jones has missed practice for the Packers. It appears as if he going to miss this weekend’s game with a hamstring injury. Jones’s injury is opening the door for AJ Dillon to start at running back this weekend. Dillon was seen at practice on Thursday taking first-team reps at the running back position, standing alongside quarterback Jordan Love. Dillon could also split carries with Patrick Taylor Jr. and maybe Emanuel Wilson.
As for Christian Watson, he is rehabbing on the side for the second consecutive day with a hamstring injury, and it is unknown what his status will be for Sunday’s game against Atlanta. It feels like Watson might be a long shot to play this weekend because he wasn’t on the practice field on Thursday.
Packers Missing Offensive Pieces Could Loom Large In Week 2
It is one thing for the Packers offense to be missing wide receiver Christian Watson because the receiving group was fine in Week 1, with Romeo Doubs stepping up. It could be entirely different this week with the offense because Aaron Jones is what made the offense go in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears on the road.
In order for quarterback Jordan Love to be effective in this offense, he needs an effective running game. Green Bay is now going to need that this week with AJ Dillon after he struggled last week with 19 yards on 13 carries. The hamstring injury is not good news for the Packers faithful. The team put up 38 total points last week against Chicago, and it appears as if that will be a tall task this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons on the road without its top two playmakers.
