The Green Bay Packers lost the opportunity to secure the No. 5 seed in the NFC Playoffs with Sunday’s 27-25 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, which calls into question how head coach Matt LaFleur will handle the season finale against the Chicago Bears.
While the Bears have very little to play for, and the Packers most likely scenario is a No. 7 seed and a trip to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on Wild Card Weekend, LaFleur doesn’t seem intent on taking his foot off the gas pedal on Sunday.
Will the Packers Rest Their Starters vs. The Bears?
There’s a case to be made that resting the Packers’ starters, including the likes of Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs, among others, could be the correct course to preserve their health and availability for the postseason.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the path LaFleur is going to go down.
“Win every game,” LaFleur told reporters Monday, when asked if he plans to play the starters.
Green Bay has the chance to secure the No. 6 seed, with some help, combined with a win over the Bears. If the Cowboys upset the Commanders– who secured a playoff berth with Sunday night’s win over the Falcons, the Packers would avoid a trip to Philadelphia.
The decision of whether to rest starters and key playmakers at the end of the regular season one is a difficult one for coaches with arguments to be made either way. With Green Bay playing for seeding, it sounds like LaFleur is ready to try to build some momentum going into the postseason.
