Packers head coach Matt LaFleur believes he has a simple solution for the complex problems that emerged for Green Bay’s offense down the stretch this season.
As quarterback Jordan Love struggled against man-coverage, the Packers’ remaining healthy receivers were stymied by the Philadelphia Eagles’ secondary in a playoff loss, and Green Bay’s offensive identity seemed to evaporate, LaFleur couldn’t turn the tide over the season’s final weeks.
What Matt LaFleur Blames for Packers Struggles on Offense
As the offseason gets underway, LaFleur believes that the Packers’ lack of consistency down the stretch comes down to one thing.
“Details,” LaFleur told reporters during his season-ending news conference. “That route has got to be run at 20 yards. We’re at 15 yards. That ball should never be in that far. So, like, I saw what Jordan saw; there’s an open hole in the defense. But when you’re not at the right route depth, bad things happen.”
Bad things certainly happened, in droves, to the Packers over the final weeks of the 2024 campaign.
Against Philadelphia, in an NFC Wild Card loss, Josh Jacobs was held to just 81 yards and a touchdown as the Packers couldn’t get the ground-game going as a complement to the passing game. Love struggled stretching the field in that loss, too.
Whether it is through marquee additions at receiver to add a dynamic playmaking element to Love’s receiving corps or simply better execution, the Packers’ offense is going to need to find a way to leave its late-season struggles in the past, or the 2025 season may already be an uphill battle.
