The Arizona Cardinals have finally formally introduced Mike LaFleur, brother of Green Bay Packers sideline boss Matt LaFleur, as their newest head coach.
In his introductory news conference on Tuesday at the Cards’ headquarters down in Tempe, Arizona, Mike said that he will be calling the plays for the team.
Meanwhile, Matt was also in attendance to show support for his younger brother, who previously worked as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams. He also had stints in the coaching staffs of the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets.
It has been quite a ride in the NFL for the 38-year-old Matt LaFleur, who now gets to see the game from a higher level and with a responsibility bigger than he’s ever handled before.
Packers’ Laleur not the only head coach in the family anymore
In a hilarious moment, Matt was asked by a reporter about what he’d say during his younger days if he got told that he and his brother would be coaching in the NFL one day.
“I’d say you’re full of [expletive],” said Matt, who drew laughter from the reporters around him.
Getting more serious, the Packers head coach shared a heartfelt insight on his and Mike’s journey.
“Humbling beginnings. My dad at Central Michigan. I walked on at Western Michigan and played D-II ball. Mike played at Elmhurst College, D-III ball. I think we have a really great appreciation for guys that are essentially playing for love of the game. I think that’s in our core and who we are.”
Good bite here, too, from Matt on the LaFleur Family.
