There is something fitting and poetic about the Green Bay Packers playing their best football of the year when the weather turns coldest and the games become more meaningful.
After all, the Packers call the legendary ‘Frozen Tundra’ of Lambeau Field home, and the homefield atmosphere and frigid temperatures undoubtedly create a homefield advantage.
Monday night, the injury-beleaguered New Orleans Saints depart the climate-controlled confines of the Superdome to take on the red-hot Packers in what promises to be temperatures at or below freezing in a game that is critical to Green Bay’s push to climb the playoff ladder.
Inside Matt LaFleur and Green Bay Packers’ December Dominance
However, the Packers have one more vital and tangible advantage over the Saints on Monday night.
That advantage is head coach Matt LaFleur.
As ESPN’s Rob Demovsky points out, LaFleur owns the best record in the league in games played in December and January, with a 23-5 record dating back to the 2019 season.
This season, that December dominance is once again holding true, with the Packers entering Monday night’s game at 1-1 this month, but the loss coming against the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions as the Packers came up three points shy of pulling off a monumental upset.
LaFleur’s late-season big-game track record could come in handy for the Packers as they look to climb the NFC standings and possibly make a lengthy playoff run next month.
