Packers Keisean Nixon Says He Channels This Heisman Trophy Winner Whenever He Gets the Ball

Green Bay Packers kick returner Keisean Nixon has been a Godsend for the special teams. He has four straight games with 100 or more kick return yards, just two away from tying the Packers’ franchise record. Nixon has been electric as the kick returner and leads to the NFL in kick return attempts. This is in and of itself quite the accomplishment considering he was not the returner for the first part of the season.

Keisean Nixon is No. 6 in #ProBowl fan voting for return specialists.

The former Los Vegas Raider has been turning heads ever since he arrived in training camp. He is even starting to get some notice from fans outside of Green Bay. He is currently sixth in Pro Bowl voting among kick returners. This is likely do to his athletic returns and the speed by which he hits running lanes. Nixon himself Tweeted out that he feels like former Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush:

I Be Feeling Like Reggie Bush When The Ball In My Hands… #K9

    Keisean Nixon in 2022

So far this season, Nixon has 25 kick returns for 617 yards. He also has three punt returns for 58 yards. As a defensive back, he has 20 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and two pass deflections.

Nixon has appeared in 13 games while starting three of them. He has played on just 29% of the Packers’ defensive snaps while appearing in 62% of the special teams snaps.

Nixon’s defense has been much improved this season, particularly in coverage. He has given up a career-high 178 yards in coverage. His previous career-high was 167 in 2020. However, in 2020 he played 155 defensive snaps. This year, he has played 237. Aside from 2021 in which he barely played any defensive snaps, his passer rating when targeted (85.1), completion percentage allowed (68.0%), yards allowed per completion (10.5), and yards allowed per target (7.1) are all career-bests.

Nixon will be a free agent after this season, and should be a top priority of the Packers front office.
