Packers quarterback Jordan Love is one of the premier young quarterbacks in the league and is playing at a level potentially capable of leading a deep postseason run.
Love’s emergence in his second season as Green Bay’s starting quarterback isn’t just a testament to the Packers’ stability at the position, with a thread line being drawn from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers to Love, in a model of consistency at the most important position in sports but also a result of head coach Matt LaFleur’s influence as a quarterback-whisperer.
Packers’ Jordan Love, Matt LaFleur Among NFL’s Top Duos
Former NFL general manager and Executive of The Year winner Jeff Diamond put together a list of the premier head coach-quarterback duos across the league, including the Packers’ combo of LaFleur and Love at No. 7.
Diamond also explains that LaFleur’s scheme predicated on balance has done wonders for Love’s rapid ascension as one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL.
“LaFleur helps Love by running a balanced attack,” Diamond writes for The 33rd Team. “With the league’s fourth-ranked rushing team led by Josh Jacobs, aiding the No. 11 passing game.
“The Packers organization showed its faith in both Love’s talent and LaFleur’s ability to get the most out of him when Love’s contract was extended in July for four more years and $220 million.”
Love has already passed for 2,953 yards with 23 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, but has surpassed a 105 passer rating in each of the past five weeks with eight touchdowns to just one interception over that span. That kind of efficiency, and ball security, combined with Jacobs’ dominance on the ground could prove to be a winning formula for the Packers if they can keep up this high level of play over the next month.
