The Green Bay Packers were able to defeat the Chicago Bears by the slimmest of margins in their first game against each other of the 2024 NFL season. While it was the 209th meeting between the two teams, it was the first contest that saw Packers quarterback Jordan Love matchup against Chicago’s quarterback of the future, Caleb Williams.
While Chicago is now 4-6 on the season and has lost four games in a row, it was a hard-fought game between the fierce NFC North division rivals. In fact, it was a game that Green Bay nearly lost after allowing the Bears to get into field goal range in the game’s closing seconds.
But with the game on the line, Packers defensive lineman Karl Brooks was able to beat his man and blocked Cairo Santos’ 46-yard field goal attempt, cementing a 20-19 win.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Shouts Out Christian Watson After the Game
While the offense was inconsistent for most of the game, wide receiver Christian Watson put Green Bay in a position to win multiple times. His 60-yard reception late in the fourth quarter set up Love’s go-ahead touchdown rush to put the Packers up 20-19.
Watson ended his day with just four receptions, but they were all massive ones. He led Green Bay with 150 yards receiving.
After the game, Love told reporters how proud he was of the third-year wide receiver:

“Phenomenal play, and obviously a phenomenal catch by Christian. To just have the awareness to get up, not being touched, and go put together a huge run. No but, I think Christian made some big-time plays in the game, had a couple big time catches, and I’m proud of the way he balled out.”
Watson’s 60-yard reception was a diving catch that brought him to the ground. However, since there were no Bears defenders near him, he got up and ran the ball down inside the 20-yard line.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Reveals That He Could Not See Christian Watson Make the Play
When asked if he was afraid he had led Watson a little too much on the throw, Love made the startling revelation that he actually could not see his wide receiver.
“I couldn’t really see. I think I got hit as I let the ball go so I couldn’t really see. I just saw him getting up and running after.”
Love ended his day with 13 completions on 17 attempts, 261 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception, and a 113.1 passer rating.
His interception, his 11th on the season, is the most in the NFL. It was thrown on a pass intended for Tucker Kraft, but was just airmailed over the tight end’s hands.
