The Green Bay Packers have a bright future thanks in large part to Jordan Love, but, without some course corrections from head coach Matt LaFleur it is beginning to be fair to wonder if either the quarterback or the franchise will reach their lofty potential.
Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia, LaFleur failed to make the adjustments such as putting Love under center against the Eagles’ relentless exotic blitz packages or finding a way to meld a previously dominant running game on the back of running back Josh Jacobs with the route concepts Love excels most at.
That can’t continue to happen.
Bleacher Report NFL analyst Kristopher Knox put together a list of the biggest concerns facing each of the teams that lost on Wild Card Weekend, including Love’s wildly inconsistent play in recent weeks as well as in the postseason.
“Love has also now thrown multiple interceptions in back-to-back playoff games,” Knox writes for B/R. “The Packers got themselves an elite running back in Josh Jacobs last offseason and have a defense that finished the regular season ranked fifth overall and sixth in points allowed. They also have an offensive line that was ranked sixth in the league by Pro Football Focus, although Elgton Jenkins and Josh Myers both exited with injuries on Sunday.
“The pieces are in place for Green Bay to be a perennial contender if it can get steadier play out of Love. Ball security and decision-making must be points of emphasis for head coach Matt LaFleur. It wouldn’t hurt to improve the receiving corps, either.”
Green Bay would certainly be wise to make a push to sign a marquee playmaking receiver, such as Tee Higgins, but LaFleur also needs to undertake a meticulous evaluation of the offense, of which traits of it help Love the most, and lean into that philosophy in 2025 and beyond.
