The Green Bay Packers have suffered from some brain drain in their offseason. They have lost defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who is now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Green Bay has also bid goodbye to quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion, who is now the new offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles.
When asked by a fan whether he saw Mannion’s move to the Eagles coming, Green Bay insider Mike Spofford said he did not, but offered a reason why.
“No, but only because Mannion hasn’t been coaching that long. He flew up the ladder. Kudos to him and I wish Sean the best. He’s a really bright, personable guy. Unfortunately, I think the Packers just lost a rising star in the coaching fraternity,” wrote Mike Spofford in his response to a fan on a recent edition of Insider Inbox on Green Bay’s official website.
Ex-Packers coach Mannion has had a quick journey to a top coaching job in the NFL
It was just a little overa decade ago when Mannion turned pro, when he was selected by the then-St. Louis Rams at the 2015 NFL Draft. A former Oregon Beavers star quarterback, Mannion’s playing career turned out to be something not much to write home about, but his career in coaching has been more promising.
He initially served as an offensive assistant for the Packers in 2024 before being promoted to the quarterbacks coach in 2025. So, in just about two years, he went from a lower-tier coaching position to a major one with a team that had recently won a Super Bowl.
With the Eagles, Mannion, who is just 33 years old, will be able to work with star quarterback Jalen Hurts and high-profile running back Saquon Barkley.
