Three weeks ago, Aaron Rodgers made the announcement that he would, indeed, return to the Green Bay Packers for his 18th NFL season. Not only is he committed to the Packers for this season, but he has also signed a three-year extension worth $150 million. According to head coach Matt LaFleur, the plan is for Rodgers to play for as long as he wants. One player the Packers believed could have returned in 2022, but did not, was Davante Adams. After being franchise tagged, Adams informed the club that he would not play under the tag. Instead, the Packers traded Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for two top draft picks. Many wondered if Rodgers knew about the trade or if he would have re-signed with the Packers if he had known. It turns out, he knew everything.
Brian Gutekunst Addressed the Media about Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams
Brian Gutekunst is currently at the NFL ownership meetings, which are held annually. It was at this event that he addressed questions about Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. Throughout the process of trading Davante, Gutekunst stated that he consulted Aaron Rodgers every step of the way.
This is a drastic change from the communication relationship between the front office and Rodgers. Last season, Rodgers had threatened not to return to Green Bay unless some changes were made along those lines. Brian Gutekunst has truly mended whatever damage there was. Rodgers knew Davante Adams was not going to return to the Packers when he signed his three-year extension. If this had happened a year ago, there is no way Rodgers ever returns to Green Bay. But now, Brian Gutekunst has able to keep one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time around for even longer. That is truly a masterful job.
