The Packers have hired Dr. Chris Carr to be the team’s Director of Performance Psychology and Team Behavioral Health Clinician.
Dr. Carr has been working as a consultant for Packers since 2018, but now takes on a more direct role in the team’s mental health department. Previously, Dr. Carr was a sports and performance psychologist for St. Vincent Sports Performance, where he had worked since 2006.
Chris Carr is an award winning mental health professional, having recently been named the recipient of the Bruce Ogilive Award for Professional Practice. He will be honored in a ceremony in Washington D.C. in August.
Dr. Carr has been a consultant for many professional sports teams throughout his career. Other organizations that have utilized his services include the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers of the NBA. He also served as a consultant for the Arizona Cardinals in 1994-1995.
Carr is a former college football player. He played at Wabash College, but was also a graduate assistant coach at Ball State University. In addition, he has worked with college athletic programs at Purdue, Ohio State, and Butler.
At least one player has shown his approval of this move: Aaron Rodgers.
If the Packers star quarterback is excited by this hire, Packers’ fans should be as well.
