The 2022 Packers draft class impresses the NFL Network
The Green Bay Packers had several rookies this season that were supposed to substantially impact the team. Two of the Packers rookies, wide receiver Romeo Doubs and linebacker Quay Walker, are listed as starters for the Packers. However, wide receiver Christian Watson, offensive lineman Zach Tom, and defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt have played substantial time for the Packers this season.
Two Packers rookies are impressing the national media. Daniel Jeremiah of the NFL Network came out with his first rookie ranking of the 2022 season. He listed both Walker and Doubs in his top-25 list.
Walker was ranked 12th.
Walker has been very productive and his size/speed combination jumps off the screen.
Jeremiah listed Doubs as the 16th-best rookie.
Doubs has quickly emerged as one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite targets (team-high 19 catches). He has the speed to get vertical, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised with his route polish, as well.
Doubs and Walker have a bright future
Walker has played pretty well for the Packers. Honestly, seeing him so high on the list is a little surprising. Walker is rated 49.1 overall by Pro Football Focus through his first four weeks. Walker has made 21 tackles this season, but he’s missed two. His coverage skills could be better, as he’s given up 10 of his 11 targets for receptions. Walker will improve on those skills over time, but his high ranking by Jeremiah feels a little premature.
Doubs has had a fantastic start to his career with the Packers. Until now, the fourth-round pick exceeded expectations as he chases rookie records. He has been targeted 24 times by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 19 were receptions, and two were touchdowns. Doubs Achilles’ heel so far has been his issues with fumbling. He has two fumbles this season. Rodgers has said he needs to work on going to the ground with the ball, but his confidence in Doubs is growing weekly.
These two rookies should continue to progress and get better. It wouldn’t be surprising if these two made the Pro Bowl in the next few years. Hopefully, as the season continues, we’ll see more development out of Tom, Watson, and Wyatt. There’s a lot of talent in this class to win a Super Bowl in the future.
