Packers former safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix retires
The Green Bay Packers signed a new contract to the active roster this week. They signed a former safety on Thursday. He won’t see the practice field or play in the Packers’ must-win game against the Minnesota Vikings. The contract will only last for a day. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix will retire a Packer.
According to a statement by the Packers, Clinton-Dix let the Packers brass know his decision to retire with the team:
“Former safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who played in 71 regular-season games with 65 starts for Green Bay from 2014-18, has informed the club of his decision to retire with the Packers. The announcement was made Thursday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
Clinton-Dix was originally selected by the Packers in the first round (21st overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of the University of Alabama. In four-plus seasons with Green Bay, he registered 419 tackles (337 solo), 14 interceptions (No. 1 on the team over that span), 38 passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Clinton-Dix also started all seven postseason contests he played in for the Packers, posting 39 tackles (32 solo), three interceptions and 11 passes defensed.”
Clinton-Dix was a highly decorated player during his career in college at Alabama and with Green Bay. He won two national championships with the Crimson Tide. Clinton-Dix was named to the first team All-SEC team and was an All-American.
The former safety had a spectacular year in 2016 when he was named to the Pro Bowl and earned second-team All-Pro honors. He had five interceptions, and six passes defended that season. Clinton-Dix finished with 16 interceptions in his NFL career. After his time with the Packers, Clinton-Dix spent time with the Washington Commanders, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders.
