Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers differ on where to go on offense
Following the Green Bay Packers loss to the New York Jets in Week 6, Aaron Rodgers thought changes needed to be made to the offense. In his post-game interview, Rodgers suggested the offense needs to simply their scheme. In Monday’s press conference, head coach Matt LaFleur was asked about Rodgers’ comments. LaFleur said he didn’t know what Rodgers meant. Packers fans Tweeted their opinions about who they thought was right about the direction where the offense should go.
Rodgers explained on Sunday that the offense was struggling with the finer details during complex plays. He said the team needed to consider what the Packers have on the field right now.
“On the couple of drives we moved the ball, it was very simple things,” Rodgers said Sunday about what worked against the Jets. “Very simple plays. No motion. We need to look at everything, the guys we got, and the things we can accomplish with them.”
The Packer offense had several starters out at wide receiver. Rodgers was throwing to practice squad wide receivers during the game.
LaFleur thinks the problems were less with the complexity of the offense. He thinks the Packers’ offense needs to get on the same page and execute correctly.
“I don’t know what that means,” LaFleur said of Rodgers’ statement on simplifying the offense.
LaFleur reiterated in the press conference that it was up to the coaches to help the players execute the offense. Although, the coach admitted there were “intricacies” causing problems for the offense.
“Certainly, you know, again, it always starts with us as coaches,” LaFleur said. “Trying to do a better job of getting guys to understand all the little intricacies because I think that’s really what separates a lot of plays in this league.”
Packers fans took sides on social media
It appears LaFleur and Rodgers are in a significant disagreement about where the offense is. Packers fans went to Twitter to post their opinions about which party they thought was right about how the offense should scheme.
It’d be nice if Matt LaFleur just put his foot down and told Rodgers how things were going to go.
I know it’s not that simple, but LaFleur is Rodgers’ boss after all. https://t.co/jDxiTpLfyV

The fact that the receives don’t know what they’re doing and Aaron Rodgers sees that, while LaFleur doesn’t.. is a problem https://t.co/qjP1G28EIM

Neither do any of us!
I feel like Rodgers kept it generic (as he said, no specifics) so there could be nothing of substance for anyone to come back at him about.
He just wanted to appear to have a better overall vision and trust him about that. https://t.co/oyBXL4GUD0

LaFleur is not a great coach. He is blessed to have Rodgers. https://t.co/0aHNs1ul7E

If Rodgers means more jet motion & "schemed up" plays, e.g. out of bunch/stack, then I'm totally with him. I think it's more than sufficient if LaFleur shows his creativity in the run game and keeps the pass game relatively QB and WR/TE friendly (like Shanahan & McDaniel). https://t.co/g9upVTzem5

this reads to me as Rodgers saying “let me run what I know” which is slant flats and RPOS and LaFleur is saying “that would be very stupid” which is correct https://t.co/qoAl8TWV9m

I’m happy LaFleur is getting exposed for being a shit coach https://t.co/gypMzqMFbi

I trust Aaron Rodgers infinitely more than I trust LaFleur https://t.co/dp0474VuQk

But Peter Bukowski would tell you Rodgers is the culprit. He has blamed him 6 games into the season than he has given him praise all through last season https://t.co/Z82CSFz02I

I actually agree with Matt here. Blocking killed half their run plays. Killed plenty of their pass plays too. Complication didn't make AJ Dillon fumble, didn't make Rodgers throw at guy's feet. Im sorry but if your right guard can't pick up a stunt to save his life, you're fucked https://t.co/AKB378KECT
