The Green Bay Packers have lost a big name in their coaching staff, and they are looking to find a replacement to fill the void.
With Jeff Hafley leaving his defensive coordinator post with Green Bay for a head-coaching job with the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay suddenly has an opening in the DC position.
The search for Hafley’s successor has started, and among the names linked to the job is former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Via an X post on Tuesday by Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network:
The #Packers are slated to interview former #AZCardinals HC Jonathan Gannon for their defensive coordinator job this week, sources say. Gannon has interest from multiple teams as a DC, notably the #Cowboys, who interviewed him today.
NFL and Packers fans comment on Gannon’s scheduled interview with Packers amid team’s DC search
However, many NFL and Green Bay fans are not feeling great about the idea of Gannon potentially handling the defensive coordinator job in Titletown.
“Any team that hires this guy are morons!🤦🏽,” said a fan on X.
Another one said: “Him and Lafleur could be the softest duo to ever to coach in the NFL. Need a MAN in there”
From a commenter: “Please god no. Keep him far away from any sideline!!
Who would hire a Cardinals Coach???,” a social media user posted.
Via a different commenter: I can see they are no longer interested in competing in tha division.
Said another: The Michael Scott of the nfl
The 43-year-old Gannon was fired by the Cardinals earlier this January after Arizona finished the 2025 campaign last in the NFC West Division with just a 3-14 record. The Cards are the only team from the NFC West not to make the 2025 playoffs, as the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers all booked spots in the postseason.
Arizona finished either third or fourth in the NFC West in each of Gannon’s time in Arizona, and that is certainly why many feel negatively about him potentially becoming part of Green Bay’s coaching staff.
