According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Green Bay Packers are expected to move on from Jimmy Graham this offseason. The move would free up 8 million dollars in cap space which is much needed with the pending free agency of Bryan Bulaga, Tramon Williams, and Blake Martinez.
In Graham’s two seasons with the Green and Gold he complied 93 receptions, 1,083 receiving yards, and 5 Touchdowns. He clearly didn’t have the impact many thought he would have considering the caliber of player he once was with the New Orleans Saints and then the Seattle Seahawks.
The move makes perfect sense for the Packers as the dead money hit the team will take is only $3.6 million while saving $8 million dollars in cap space. Also the drop off in productivity from 2018 to 2019 with the team as shown below and factoring that Jimmy Graham is going on his age 34 season in the league makes this a smart move.
2018: 16 Games Played, 12 Starts, 89 Targets, 55 Receptions, 636 Receiving yards, 2 Touchdowns
2019: 16 Games Played, 10 Starts, 60 Targets, 38 Receptions, 447 Receiving yards, 3 Touchdowns
