The Packers’ wide receiver room seems to be ever changing already this season. Sammy Watkins was recently placed on IR. Christian Watson is unlikely to play, which was a surprise. However, Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard appear to be ready to go Vs. the Buccaneers. That being said, the Packers elevated a wide receiver to the active 53 man roster given all the changes. Juwann Winfree will get another shot at making an impact this week.
Juwann Winfree Gets Another Shot For The Packers
Winfree has been a staple on the Packers practice squad for a couple of years. While he is still a young player, he is somewhat of a veteran. He knows the system and has even played in some games here and there when there have been injuries to the receiving corp.
He has had yet another decent preseason. What has been impressive about Winfree is what else he brings to the team. On running plays he blocks well on the outside to help break runners free. He has special teams experience which the Packers desperately need. Also, Aaron Rodgers has spoken out multiple times about his love for Juwann Winfree which is something to take into account. The knock on Winfree is he has had opportunities to make an impact during the regular season and has not capatilized. Today he will get another crack at it in Tampa. With Christian Watson out, Winfree may get some of those opportunities. Keep an eye out to see how much #88 is on the field today, it could surprise you.
