The Green Bay Packers (4-7) will be playing for their playoff lives when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles (9-1) on Sunday night. In an effort to boost their roster depth, they elevated two players from the practice squad on Saturday: running back Patrick Taylor and safety Innis Gaines. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic shared the news on Twitter.

Patrick Taylor was recently re-signed by the Packers on Friday. Green Bay had waived him on Wednesday to make room for newly signed linebacker Justin Hollins.
The addition of Innis Gaines to the active roster is truly an interesting one. Per Zach Jacobson of CBS Sports, this means the Packers could go into their game against the Eagles with seven safeties on their roster:
After elevating Innis Gaines from the practice squad, the Packers could go into tomorrow night’s game with seven (!!) safeties on their roster:
• Darnell Savage
• Adrian Amos
• Rudy Ford
• Dallin Leavitt
• Johnathan Abram
• Tariq Carpenter
• Innis Gaines— zach jacobson (@itszacharyj) November 26, 2022
Patrick Taylor and Innis Gaines in 2022
Neither Patrick Taylor nor Innis Gaines have seen much of the field in 2022. Taylor has seen more special teams snaps than Gaines, having played 38% of the Packers special teams snaps this season. This playing time has come over the course of eight games played. Gaines, on the other hand, has only been active for one game: the Packers’ Week Eight loss to the Buffalo Bills. He played 41% of the Packers special teams snaps in that game. Gaines did not record any playing time on defense in that game. Similarly, Taylor has been on the field for just one offensive snap all season.
Practice Squad Elevation Counts
This is the third time the Packers have elevated Patrick Taylor from their practice squad. Per the new NFL rule, if they wish to elevate him again for any game this season, they must sign him to their 53-man roster. The Packers already had to do this once with Juwann Winfree this season.
This is the second time Innis Gaines has been elevated this season.
