The Green Bay Packers improved to 10-4 on the season with their 30-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. Quarterback Jordan Love continued his Toyotathon dominance, completing 20 of 27 passes for 229 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs, playing in his first game since suffering a concussion against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12, had three receptions for 40 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back Josh Jacobs had 136 all-purpose yards and a touchdown as well.
Defensively, the Packers had seven sacks and 12 quarterback pressures. For the majority of the season, the pass rush has been underwhelming, but against Seattle it was one of the deciding factors of the game.
Coincidentally, Green Bay’s improved pass rush in Week 15 coincided with the return of rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.
Green Bay Packers Rookie Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper Dominated When He Was on the Field
There were multiple Packers defensive players who had great games on Sunday night, but the performance by Cooper stood out. Playing in just 58% of the defensive snaps, he led the team in tackles (seven) while also recording a sack, an interception, and two tackles for loss.
Green Bay had been missing their rookie linebacker, who had been out for the last three games with a hamstring injury he suffered in practice leading up to Week 12.
In 11 games played this year, Cooper now has 59 tackles, 3.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and four passes defended.
For some reason, he has only played 46% of the defensive snaps in games for which he has been active.
Green Bay Packers Players Have High Praise for Edgerrin Cooper
Kingsley Enagbare, who had two sacks himself against the Seahawks, had the highest of praise for Cooper after the game. According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Enagbare said of the rookie linebacker, “He’s special, man. Definitely I feel like he’s a future Hall of Famer. From the stat line, you can see he can do everything — make tackles, make the interceptions, get the sacks. There’s literally nothing he’s physically not able to do.”
During his postgame press conference, Love said of Cooper, “He had a crazy game. He’s a phenomenal player.”
Head coach Matt LaFleur also was highly complimentary of his rookie linebacker: “He’s just a hell of a player. — It’s been fun to watch and witness his growth. — He’s a really good football player, I think he’s just scratching the surface of what he can become in this league”
Perhaps a little more playing time will help him scratch that surface.
Of course, depending on how long Quay Walker will be out with the ankle injury he suffered last night, Cooper may see the field a lot more in the coming weeks.
