The Green Bay Packers are riding high after a dominant win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. The win brought Green Bay to 10-4 on the year with the New Orleans Saints (5-9) up next.
Defense will be key for any team who wants to win a championship, and the Packers may have added a huge piece to theirs.
“This Is Massive” Packers Able To Add Hall Of Fame Talent To Defense For Playoff Run (Report)
After the Green Bay Packers’ 30-13 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on “Sunday Night Football,” Kingsley Enagbare might’ve gotten carried away in his praise of rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.
Still, his enthusiasm about the 2024 second-round pick offered a glimpse into the locker room’s perspective on an emerging player:
“He’s special, man,” Enagbare said. “Definitely, I feel like he’s a future Hall of Famer. From the stat line, you can see he can do everything — make tackles, make the interceptions, get the sacks. There’s literally nothing he’s physically not able to do. The sky’s the limit for him. He’s gonna be a hell of a player one day — or continue to be a hell of a player.”
Wait, a Hall of Famer? Eleven games into his NFL career? Like, the Packers Hall of Fame or the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
“Both!” Enagbare responded. “Both. I can definitely see it for him. For sure.”
Hyperbole aside, Cooper is a stud. Defensive tackle Kenny Clark was the first player to speak with reporters in the visiting locker room at Lumen Field on Sunday night and rattled off Cooper’s stat line as if someone had already relayed it to him. That was indeed the case. Minutes prior, head coach Matt LaFleur read Cooper’s box score exploits to the entire team before awarding the rookie with one of two game balls after the Packers advanced to 10-4.
“This guy had seven tackles, a sack, two TFLs, two PBUs, two quarterback hurries AND a pick!” LaFleur exclaimed, pausing after each stat to allow teammates to make noise, roars that crescendoed as LaFleur tossed Cooper the ball and several fellow defensive players surrounded him as defensive end Rashan Gary shook him like a rag doll.
“Coaches read off his stat line and just hearing some of that stuff … he had a crazy game,” quarterback Jordan Love said. “And you’ve seen the work he’s put in throughout the course of the season. He’s getting better every week and he’s a phenomenal player.”
Here is a look at Cooper’s season stats:
