The Packers have been all over the 2023 NFL draft order this season. For a while, it looked as if the Packers could end up in the top 10 after a slow start to the season. However, they have rebounded well. Here is an update on where the Packers draft pick stands after week 16.
Current Packers Draft Pick: No. 17
With the win on Sunday, the Packers have moved back in the draft order. Last week, they sat at no. 11 but have moved six spots back to no. 17. They pick just after the Pittsburgh Steelers and right before fellow NFC North rival Detroit. Before the three-game win streak, the Packers looked to have a top-10 pick but now they sit more in the middle. If they do end up making it into the playoffs, the lowest they would get is no. 19. While there are still a couple of weeks left, it looks as if the Packers will end up with a high teen pick if they miss the playoffs and a pick in the twenties if they make it.
What Position Do They Need To Target?
The Packers have a couple of holes in the roster that they need to fill. The offensive line looked like a need until the Elgton Jenkins extension. As of this moment, the biggest needs are at safety and tight end. The safety position has been a struggle this year. Adrian Amos has been a shell of himself. Darnell Savage and Rudy Ford have exchanged benchings. The Packers need to bring in some new blood at the safety position. The tight end position is not much better. Robert Tonyan has been simply okay and the rest of the squad is weak. The Packers draft pick will likely be spent on one of these positions.
Hopefully, the Packers draft pick will end up in the twenties. That will mean they made the playoffs and ended the season strong. Regardless of where they end up, this draft class has been so stellar that it proves Brian Gutekunst can find value wherever he ends up picking.
