Packers head coach Matt LaFleur may be about to lose one of Green Bay’s top assistant coaches.
Reports surfaced Thursday that Green Bay defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley interviewed for the Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator vacancy, which could create a void at one of the most vital positions in Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s scheme.
Hafley has also been garnering interest this hiring cycle, including a forthcoming interview with the New York Jets for their head coaching opening.
Ansley, 43, has spent just one year on the Packers’ staff but helped Green Bay’s passing defense improve to 19th in the NFL, while playing a vital role in helping All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney post a career-year in his first season since signing with the Packers early in free agency last spring.
Notably, news of Ansley’s interview was popular on social media among Falcons fans, optimistic that he’d be able to elevate the defense, should Atlanta hire him.
