Thursday in practice, Packers linebacker Quay Walker was a full participant for the first time in a while, dating back to a “stinger” sustained Week 11 in New York.

For the Green Bay defense, reinforcement in the second level should help keep the Bears from ripping off seven or eight yard gains in early downs as they bring their dominant rushing attack to Lambeau.
Walker’s return just in time for tough ground game matchup vs Bears
In 10 games this season, Walker has racked up 84 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and seven stuffs. If he can stay healthy, he should be in line to record 100 tackles for the fourth time in four NFL seasons.

Despite an unfavorable grade from Pro Football Focus (55.3, 55th among 84 qualified linebackers), Walker is an important presence in the middle of the Packers defense. In two fewer games played, he is barely behind Edgerrin Cooper for the team lead in tackles (Cooper has 86).
With Devonte Wyatt done for the season, the front four is already missing a key link. Walker’s return at middle linebacker should compensate to some degree by limiting the damage Chicago running backs can do once they get past the line of scrimmage.
Various injuries notwithstanding, the Packers have emerged as a strong run defense this season – despite the loss of Pro Bowler Kenny Clark in the Micah Parsons trade. The Bears, on the other hand, are even better running the ball than Green Bay is at stopping it.

With Walker helping to clog the middle of the field, whoever wins in the trenches will likely come out on top in the game.
