The Green Bay Packers and all other NFL teams have to trim their roster from 90 to 85 today. Yesterday, the Packers cut two players who had been injured for most of training camp but also signed a new tight end. These moves brought the Packers roster down to 88. To get the total down to 85, the Packers announced the release of three players, including tight end Dominique Dafney:
The Packers released TE Dominique Dafney, RB BJ Baylor and OL George Moore to get down to 85 by today’s deadline.

In addition to these Packers roster moves, Green Bay also announced the release of linebacker Ellis Brooks, bringing the roster down to 84.
The Packers also released LB Ellis Brooks, an undrafted rookie from Penn State.

What These Packers Roster Moves Tell Us
The release of BJ Baylor is certainly a real indicator that the Green Bay Packers really like Tyler Goodson for their third running back position. Baylor, an undrafted free agent for the Packers, was battling Goodson, Patrick Taylor, and Dexter Williams for the third running back roster spot. Kylin Hill is still recovering from a torn ACL and may not be active until midseason. For his part, Goodson had 61 all-purpose yards in the Packers’ preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Baylor had a huge reception for one of the longest plays in the game. However, Goodson has out-performed him thus far.
Aside from the RB3 position, these Packers roster cuts also indicate what the TE position may look like this season. Many predicted Dominique Dafney to make the 53-man roster. Now, the Packers cut him as the roster trims down. What changed? Well, Robert Tonyan was activated off of the PUP list. With Tonyan looking like he is going to be ready for Week 1, Dafney consequently became expendable. It appears that Green Bay is looking at going into 2022 with Tonyan, Marcedes Lewis, Josiah Deguara, and Tyler Davis on their roster at tight end.
