The Packers have two established pass rushers Rashan Gary and Preston Smith. Their next EDGE pass rusher is likely rookie Kingsley Enagbare, taken in the fifth round of the 2022 Draft. KLavon Chaisson from the Jaguars could provide the depth needed at the EDGE position. Chaisson was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but has not panned out the way they had hoped. A Jaguars trade wouldn’t be surprising at this point, especially after their 2022 draft.
K’Lavon Chaisson has incredible burst, speed, and athleticism. These attributes are largely what made him a first round draft pick. Similar to the reasons Green Bay drafted OLB Rashan Gary out of Michigan. Gary is now one of the best outside linebackers in the NFL. That track record of draft and develop would make Chaisson a perfect trade target for the Packers.
Who is K’Lavon Chaisson:
KLavon Chaisson is a former LSU Tiger. Chaisson stands 6’4″ and is 254 pounds. He has appeared in 31 games with 11 starts in his first two season in Jacksonville. In those two seasons he logged 50 total tackles, six tackles for a loss, and just two sacks; certainly not the production you expect from a first-round selection.
The Jaguars took two linebackers in first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. OLB Travon Walker out of Georgia paired with LB Devin Llyod out of Utah. Consequently, the linebackers room is going to be crowded for the underperforming Chaisson. The Jaguars exploring a trade may be what both sides need.
Proposed Trade:
Packers receive:
- OLB K’Lavon Chaisson
Jaguars receive:
- 2023 third round pick
- 2023 conditional sixth round pick
Trading away a former first round pick for a third round pick just two years later seems like a loss for Jacksonville. However getting something for a player who hasn’t lived up to what you expected is a major win. Getting a third round pick is an even bigger win. Furthermore, this trade for the Packers acquires much needed linebacker depth and someone who resembles exactly what they have in Rashan Gary.
