The 2023 NFL offseason has gotten off to a hot start and the Green Bay Packers are at the center of the rumor mill. Of course, as every fan knows, Aaron Rodgers has captivated the media cycle nearly every single day. Whether or not he will end up being traded is a question that will not stopped being asked every day until a decision is made by both Rodgers and the team.
Despite the drama surrounding Rodgers, the Packers are preparing for much more this offseason. No matter who they go with at quarterback, the 2022 season showed that major improvements need to be made to the roster.
Unfortunately for the Packers, they do not have much money to work with this offseason. Like they have to do in recent years, Green Bay will need to get creative to open up enough cap room to make any kind of impact signing. Thankfully, there are a few players on the market that could fit what the Packers can afford.
The Packers Are Connected To Intriguing Wide Receiver, Again
CBS Sports recently broke down one free agent that each team in the NFL should prioritize this offseason. For the Packers, they chose New England Patriots’ impending free agent wideout Jakobi Meyers.
Don’t let his failed lateral fool you, Meyers had a big year in a bad offense with 67 catches for 804 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. Personally, I think a change of scenery would be good for him, and he could play an immediate role with the Packers wide receiving corps. Opinions vary on Meyers, but I think he’s underrated when you consider his route-running and ability to line up in different spots.
Meyers is exactly the kind of piece that the Packers should pursue this offseason. The main hype has the Packers as the betting favorites to trade for DeAndre Hopkins, but Green Bay doesn’t need to swing that big and expensive.
Looking ahead to the future, the Packers have Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs to build around at the wide receiver position. Adding a role player like Meyers would make much more sense. He could end up being a starter, or he could be a great third option behind the two young receivers.

During the 2022 season with the Patriots, Meyers ended up catching 67 passes for 804 yards and six touchdowns. Those numbers show the kind of impact player he could be for either Rodgers or Jordan Love.
Green Bay would also be intrigued by the fact that Meyers is just 26 years old. He is still in the prime of his career and giving him a three-year deal would not be a dangerous move. Meyers would provide the Packers a legitimate security blanket as a veteran wideout.
Expect to see the Packers try to be very aggressive this offseason. Whether they trade Rodgers or not, the goal will be to get back into the playoffs in 2023. That’s a high task, but one that Green Bay will embrace.
