It is going to be a new era for the Green Bay Packers’ defense, as there is a new sheriff in town for the stop unit.

With Jeff Hafley leaving Titletown to be the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay had to find a new man to handle the defensive coordinator job, and they found one in the form of former Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon.

The 43-year-old Gannon will handle a talented group of Green Bay defenders, featuring five-time Pro Bowler and superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons. While Parsons is still recuperating from a season-ending injury, he’s expected to be back at some point in the 2026 campaign, as Gannon looks to improve the team’s defense further.

Fans have all sorts of reactions to Packers’ announcement on Gannon

On Monday, Green Bay officially announced the hiring of Gannon to its coaching staff with a statement on the team’s official website and on social media.

The announcement sparked plenty of reactions from fans online.

“Decent hire. I still wish he was an OC because his name is so close to “Cannon” and the marketing would write itself.,” said a fan on X.

Another one said: “High ceiling… but it has to translate on Sundays 😬”

From a commenter: “I thought you wanted to get better? Good luck with this dufus.”

“If he turns Nixon into CB1 hes HOF,” a social media user posted.

Via a different commenter: “Next post better be firing rich and Adam.”

Said another: “Finally, a coaching hire that satisfies the Packer Twitter crowd…”

The job with Green Bay is a return to a former role for Gannon, who served as the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles from 2021 to 2022. He also had stints with the Atlanta Falcons, the then-St. Louis Rams, Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts.
