The Green Bay Packers will have a lot on their plate in the offseason because aside from the free agents and Jeff Hafley getting pirated, their offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich might be snatched away from them, too.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported early this week that the Chicago Bears have requested to interview Stenavich. The news came after Hafley reportedly got interest from the New York Jets.
The 41-year-old OC spent most of his coaching career as an offensive line mentor. He started on that job with Northern Arizona in 2014 and then became an assistant offensiveline coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2018.
He joined the Packers for the same role in 2019 and then was promoted to a run-game coordinator by 2021.
In 2022, he was again promoted to an offensive coordinator.
The Bears are coming off another below-mid season and are looking for a new coach to replace Matt Eberflus who was fired mid-season. They finished with a 5-12 record, including a 10 straight defeat.
They concluded their season somewhat on a good note by beating Stenavich’s team, the Green Bay Packers themselves, by just two points.
Green Bay Packers legend David Bakhtiari is first to vouch for Adam Stenavich
“If you don’t do it, someone else will.”
That is what former Packers offensive tackle Daviud Bakhtiari told Matt LaFleur when asked in 2022 if it is time for them to promote Stenavich.
They did promote and now, Bakhtiari’s words are having a different meaning as their OC becomes a targeted coach.
This is also not the first time that Stenavich’s name was floated on list of those who will get a head coaching job in the near future.
In a think piece published by Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr to cover sudden interest on Stenavich, Bakhtiari revealed what makes the coach a good one.
“When you’ve been around the block, you know that guys who are really good at their job coaching their individual position don’t stay at that job. So, that’s what I saw in Adam. He came in very raw, but he was smart, willing to adapt, grew and grew quickly to the point where I was like, He’s going to be out of this room soon.”
