The Cincinnati Bengals could look to trade for one of the Packers‘ starting defensive playmakers this offseason, according to one NFL analyst.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put together a list of the players most likely to be traded this offseason, including the Bengals acquiring Packers starting linebacker Quay Walker.
“It feels likely that Green Bay will decline the fifth-year option on Walker’s contract,” Knox suggests for B/R. “Which will make 2025 a contract year. And if the Packers aren’t sold on the 24-year-old’s long-term prospects, they may look to cash in while they can.
The Packers aren’t in a dire cap situation—they have $64.4 million in projected cap space—and could be hesitant to trade starters while they are contending. General manager Brian Gutekunst has already shut down the idea of trading standout cornerback Jaire Alexander in the offseason. Should a team make an enticing offer for Walker, however, the Packers will probably listen.”
While Walker hasn’t quite become the superstar that the Packers hoped he would when he was drafted, the former second-round pick out of Georgia could still be a significant upgrade along Cincinnati’s front-seven.
How Packers LB Quay Walker Fits the Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals’ defense woefully underperformed, overall, this season and was a big reason Cincinnati missed out on the postseason.
Through his first three NFL seasons, Walker has produced 341 total tackles with 6.5 sacks and one interception returned for a touchdown.
There isn’t much reason for Green Bay to move on from Walker, if general manager Brian Gutekunst believes that there is an upgrade to be had in this year’s draft class, to pair alongside Edgerrin Cooper and are able to bolster the franchise’s draft capital in the process, Walker could be a trade chip to watch.
