Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears can only look back at their 28-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers last Sunday in a Week 14 matchup at Lambeau Field with regret.
Things would have gone much differently, and perhaps in Chicago’s favor, if only the Bears had managed to execute properly a play down the stretch that ended with quarterback Caleb Williams getting picked off by Green Bay cornerback Keisean Nixon.
On a 4th-and-1 and with only under 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Williams tried to get the ball to tight end Cole Kmet in the end zone, but the quarterback seemingly did not put enough mustard on the ball, leading to an underthrown pass that Nixon perfectly read for a game-saving interception for the Packers.

During an appearance on Monday on ESPN1000 radio program, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said that the play got Kmet open, but Williams was just late to recognize the tight end. Had Williams hit Kmet earlier, the Bears would have scored a touchdown and likely tied the game with the extra point after.
#Bears HC Ben Johnson said on @ESPN1000 that after watching the film, the final play-call idea worked:
Cole Kmet’s defender dropped to D’Andre Swift, and DJ Moore’s defender, Keisean Nixon, made a heads-up play to cover Kmet and grab the INT.

Still, the Bears could have just called for an easier play to execute, given the circumstances., There was practically no room for error for Chicago in that situation.
But it was what it was for Chicago, which can still get back at the Packers in Week 16, when Green Bay takes its turn to visit the Bears at Soldier Field in the Windy City.
