AJ Dillon, the Green Bay Packers, and the rest of the NFL are all in unison as they pray and hope for the full recovery of Bills safety Damar Hamlin. The second-year safety went into cardiac arrest on the field on Monday night. Thanks to the life-saving measures of the medical staffs of the Bills and Bengals, Hamlin was able to be transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.
The Monday Night game was suspended, as was only right. Players from both sides were shaken to their cores. The event was a stark reminder of how dangerous the game of football can be. AJ Dillon, in his weekly appearance on “Nine 2 Noon with John Kuhn” talked about that very thing.
There Are Things Bigger Than Football
John Kuhn and Brian Butch asked AJ Dillon to walk them through his thoughts in the past 24 hours after watching what happened to Damar Hamlin.
AJ Dillon: “Yeah, I mean, you know watching that go down, it is definitely a really scary situation. My wife and I, we weren’t watching the game, but I got the ESPN notification that something had happened. And I saw the news, and my wife and I were just sitting there. And you know, personally, we prayed on it and prayed for his family.
“I think a lot times people take away or forget every time someone’s going out there, they’re putting their body at risk. There’s a lot to it, and it really makes you think.
“At the end of the day, everyone has to go home. I have to go home to my wife, I got a son on the way. There’s a lot more important things than football.”
On Whether or Not Suffering an Injury Like That Is a Concern to Him
I think it is human nature to think, “That could have been me.” I was thinking that from the comfort of my home and haven’t had played a football game since eighth grade. Brian Butch and John Kuhn asked AJ Dillon the same question: how do you go out and play the game after watching that happen?
AJ Dillon: “It’s human nature to think about something that’s just gone down…. but they always say the worst thing you can do is go out there thinking about getting hurt.”

Support Damar Hamlin’s Foundation
Back in his college days, Damar Hamlin started a foundation called Chasin’ M’s. The purpose of the foundation is to raise money to buy toys for children in need. Prior to the Monday Night incident, the Foundation’s goal on GoFundMe was $2,500. In 24 hours, it has surpassed $5 million in donations.
